In the series Five Years, it all starts when two old high school friends, Tereza and David, disagree about a situation that happened five years ago. Tereza talks about the rape, but David remembers the situation in a completely different way. She wants to close a chapter, but he doesn’t even want to open it.
What really happened that night? This post #MeToo series masterfully weaves a complicated memory through two time frames, and provides us with a meticulous analysis of consent and the effects of sexual assault. It also explores the issue of sexual violence and consent from different angles without demonising the perpetrator or glorifying the victim, but rather approaching the issue from both perspectives to show us a very scathing x-ray of the pain and the memory.
